1941 Vintage Signed MB Phrygian Cap Marcel Boucher 4 Inch Swallow Bird in Flight Brooch. The brooch measures approximately 4 inches long and 3 inches wide (at the longest point). Silver and gold tone metals with clear rhinestones in a three-dimensional design. It is signed MB with the Phrygian cap and Des. It also has what looks like deliberately scratched initials on the back. This bird design from 1941 was the first in the line of jewelry created for Saks Fifth Avenue in a collection of dimensional bird brooches.

The patent is from October 7, 1941. It is a book piece, appearing on pages 199 and 200 of American Costume Jewelry 1935 - 1950 by the Brunialtis (Mazzotta, in Italian). Flaws: Almost all of the rhinestones are nice and bright but there are a few that have darkened.

There is metal wear on the front, primarily on the tips of the beak and wings. The 2nd picture has 2 spots that look like wear.

There are small scratches on the front and back metal. The clasp looks like it broke at one time and was soldered back on. I have pulled, pushed, and wiggled it. Someone did a very good job. The clasp is also nice and tight.

I have no idea what those extra initials are. If you would like additional pictures of anything please message me. Please look carefully at the pictures. Vintage jewelry may show signs of wear, tarnish, small scratches, verdigris, and other normal age wear. Any obvious flaws are described above.
