Composed of brass, the pendant features salmon coral and white coral in branch and button shapes arranged in the motif of a bird's nest.

A highly valued variety of coral, salmon coral was affordable to only the most wealthy during the Georgian era, suggesting this brooch would have been worn by a member of high society. The salmon coral is a vibrant orange in hue and retains its organic branch shapes arranged around the outside of the brooch to form a border. Creating the bird's nest motif are carved and polished button cabochon white coral, which rest inside the border of salmon coral branches like eggs within a nest. In the middle of the white coral stones is a final piece of salmon coral.

The coral pieces sit atop intertwined bands of brass which further the bird's nest motif. A jump ring bale, as well as a scarf slide, complete this piece, allowing it to be worn as a pendant on a necklace or on a scarf. The brooch also has an open "c" clasp in which a pin stem would have fit.

The pin stem is missing but can easily be replaced so this piece can be worn as a brooch on a variety of accessories, including hats, scarves, and lapels. Due to its design, the brooch can be worn at many different angles to create unique styles and looks. A lovely example of Georgian jewelry, this brooch would make an excellent addition to any antique jewelry collection. Don't miss your chance to preserve this piece of cultural history.

This brooch is missing its original pin stem; your local jeweler can easily attach a pin stem so this piece can be worn as a brooch. Some pieces of coral are missing; however, this is hardly noticeable and does not affect wear. ONe loose piece of coral will be included with the pin brooch. The price has been reduced to reflect this. This listing is for the item only. The Georgian era is known for its hand-crafted designs, which were heavily influenced by world exploration. A few signatures of this era were high karat gold, cameos, chatelaine accessories, foil-backed stones, rivière necklaces, memento mori, and mourning jewelry, and rose and mine cut diamonds. While the jewelry from this era began to see designs from all over the world, jewelry from abroad was still very expensive to acquire due to sea travel. Between age and difficulty of acquirement, pieces from the Georgian era are amazing and rare historical finds. Salmon coral is harvested almost exclusively in the Mediterranean off the coasts of Italy, France, Spain, Algeria, and Tunisia. Salmon coral has widely been valued as the rarest and most beautiful of all coral types. During the Victorian era, only the richest of the rich could afford to have this form of coral harvested and imported into Europe and North America.
