Exceptionally rare early to mid Victorian shell cameo brooch of The Doves of Pliny. It dates from around 1850 and is a Grand Tour cameo of the finest quality.

It has been skillfully carved by a master craftsman in high relief. The shell cameo is mounted in it's original rose gold which acid tests at 9ct. The brooch measures 2.5 x 2.25 ins. Total weight is 21.8 gms. Visually spectacular in every way.

Some light age related wear including a few missing claws which holds the cameo tightly in it's mount. Good hook and gold pin. It is of museum quality.
