Antique Victorian Diamond & Ruby Swallow Brooch c1885. A stunning Victorian Diamond & Ruby set Swallow Brooch dating to c1885, which depicts a Swallow in flight beautifully crafted in Gold & Silver and set with Diamonds (approx' 0.45ct) & Rubies. (please study the detailed close-up photographs provided, which form an integral part of the item's description). This wonderful Antique Brooch, which weighs 2.8 grams.

Measures approx' 25.0mm long (from beak to tail) with a wingspan of approx' 34.0mm. Has been beautifully modelled really capturing the. Of beauty & movement of a Swallow in flight. The Brooch has been fashioned in 9ct Gold faced with Silver and set with eight Old-cut Diamonds (Total Diamond Weight 0.45ct) & two Rubies for the Swallow's Eyes (Silver was the precious metal of choice for Goldsmiths to set Diamonds before Platinum was available). Typical of the Period this fine quality Victorian Brooch is unmarked, but it has been tested and is guaranteed to be made from solid Gold & Silver, as described.

Overall it is in great condition with only age appropriate wear - commensurate with age when viewed through a x10 loupe one of the Rubies is chipped but this isn't noticeable to the naked eye and only mentioning for descriptive completeness. As shown, the Brooch is ready to wear and is complete with a'C' clasp, a strong pin and good hinge, which work perfectly.
