VICTORIAN 9CT GOLD SWEETHEART BIRD BROOCH. A really lovely Victorian Sweetheart bird brooch depicting a single swallow in flight. The Victorians often used swallows in their jewellery as they mate for life and are said to always go back to their nest. They believed the swallow to be associated with loyalty, love and peace. This particular brooch also has a heart placed at the end, another symbol of love.
It is clearly stamped 9ct gold to the wing. The condition of the brooch is good, with just a small chip to the wing, which can't really be seen with the naked eye, it also has general wear and tear consistent with the age of the piece, which is to be expected, as it is well over 100 years old. It has a c-clasp, which is in good working order. It measures approximately 4cms in length.
Would benefit from a clean. It is boxed in a recyclable cardboard box as shown in the last picture. A pretty little piece of Victorian jewellery, it would make the perfect gift for a loved one.
