Vintage Blue Bird Landing On A Branch Brooch Enamel Rhinestones Sphinx Pin
Beautiful animated pin, representing a bird with wings deployed landing on a branch. The body of the bird and a part of the plumage are filled with white crystal. The head and the other part of the plumage are enameled blue and green. Measures 2 3/8" inches by 1 5/8" inches.
From an estate collection of new old stock impeccably crafted top quality vintage designer jewelry items manufactured by the Sphinx of England jewelry company. Marked on the back with design serial number. Very collectible vintage pin back designer brooch in new condition. In addition to line of their own designs, they produced jewelry designs for many creatively talented artists and high end department stores, in Europe as well as the United States.
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Sphinx, like a multitude of other jewelry manufacturers coming of age during the industrial revolution, also imitated the designs of other esteemed jewelry artists. Mark: SPHINX in an oval cartouche with some having a LETTER AND NUMBER included or without the Sphinx name, having only a LETTER AND NUMBER in a cartouche. Unsigned pieces were either for customers who wanted to sell pieces as their own, because work was produced in a rush to meet demand or because there wasn't space on the design.
Pieces may have either numbers only or a letter and numbers. These were design serial numbers.
