Lovely Little Lovebirds enameled Black, and Red. Snuggling together inside a crystal heart. Measures approximately 1 5/8" inches x 1" inch.

Signed with the Sphinx cartouch and design serial number. A nice, well made pin. From an estate collection of new old stock impeccably crafted top quality vintage designer jewelry items. Rare and very collectible designer figurative brooch manufactured by the Sphinx Jewelry Co. A very lovely message in a brooch! In addition to a line of their own often whimsical and always elegant designs, they produced jewelry designs for many creatively talented artists and high end department stores, in continental Europe as well as the United States. It is said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Sphinx, like a multitude of other jewelry manufacturers coming of age during the industrial revolution, also imitated the designs of other esteemed jewelry artists.

Mark: SPHINX in an oval cartouche with some having a LETTER AND NUMBER included or without the Sphinx name, having only a LETTER AND NUMBER in a cartouche. Unsigned pieces were either for customers who wanted to sell pieces as their own, because work was produced in a rush to meet demand or because there wasn't space on the design. Pieces may have either numbers only or a letter and numbers. These were design serial numbers. The jewelry is now becoming highly collectible since Sphinx ceased operations in the late 1990's.
