Here we have a beautifully intricate 1940s vintage reverse carved lucite brooch depicting two storks. The images have been skilfully hand carved into the lucite and painted from the reverse, giving the brooch a realistic three dimensional appearance from the front. The carved lucite is set in a ornate brass frame finished with a trombone pin clasp typical of French pieces from the period.Developed in the 1930s, Lucite became a wildly popular material for jewellery. It was less expensive to produce than Bakelite, Galalith, and celluloid, and made these earlier jewellery plastics almost obsolete. In its pure form, as in this brooch, Lucite resembles and sparkles like rock crystal and quartz. It is widely believed in America that Lucite pieces such as this were made from decommissioned fighter plane windows after the end of World War Two which were predominantly made from lucite. In America they are sometimes called warplane-window jewellery and'sweet heart' brooches.
The brooch comes in a lovely new gift box so it is perfect as a gift or as a collectible piece to add to your own collection. It's in excellent vintage condition. This is real miniature work of art and stands out from the majority of reverse carved pieces. Please look at the pictures carefully as these form part of the description. The item "Vintage Reverse Carved Lucite Brooch. In Gift Box" is in sale since Sunday, April 28, 2019.
