Vtg Mexico Sterling 2 PARROT Bird BroochCheep-Cheap! A Momma Parrot and a Baby! With their beaks open expressively, these two animated parrots appear to be singing in unison can't you just hear them - Cheep, Cheep. They are nicely detailed, from the deeply incised and oxidised (deliberately darkened) lines on their heads and tails, simulating feathers, to those on their wings and talons. Their bodies are parrot green agate or calcite cabs (sometimes called "Mexican jade").

The Mama Parrot measures about 2-11/16" tall by about 1" wide by 7/16 deep. The Baby measures slightly over 1-1/2" tall by about 5/8" wide by 3/8 deep. There is over 2 of chain between them. A parrot "chatelaine pin" similar to this one may be seen on page 76 of the book.

The big parrot is signed on the back "Hecho en Mexico DF" in a circle around initials that look like "JGG" and "0925" for sterling silver. The artist JGG is listed in Bille Hougart's excellent reference. The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks. (and I have had other pieces by this artist, all of similarly high quality). This charming handmade brooch is in Very Good / Excellent vintage condition with just expected surface scratches, dirt and tarnish as well as the usual minor irregularities in the natural stones.

Fun to wear, this papagayo brooch will add a whimsical touch of the tropics to your wardrobe and make a nice addition to your collection. Not just for bird lovers, it would make a super present for all your fine feathered friends, if you can bear to part with it, and will fly out of here in a gift box, just in case!
